Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a common procedure that can increase your breast size by one or more sizes. By surgically inserting breast implants beneath the breast tissue or the chest muscle during breast augmentation, women can achieve larger, reshaped breasts. This type of breast enhancement is sometimes performed in conjunction with a breast lift. Breast augmentation can also be part of breast reconstruction after surgery for breast cancer or other conditions affecting the breast. Breast augmentation is done in a hospital facility. Surgery usually takes one to two hours, and is performed under general anaesthesia. You will most likely go home the same day of your surgery. Mr Williams will give you specific guidelines to follow during your recovery based on your personal needs. In general, you can expect to return to your usual routine after one week but you should avoid excessive lifting to minimize tension on incision lines, thereby ensuring minimal scar lines.

Mastopexy/Breast Lift

Breast lift, or Mastopexy, is designed to create the appearance of firmer and less saggy breasts. Whether from childbirth and breastfeeding, changes in weight, gravity, or the natural aging process, a woman’s breasts will change over time. These factors can result in sagging breasts losing their elasticity and firmness, a condition also known as ptosis. Depending on the specific problems to be addressed, a breast lift procedure may consist of one or discrete procedures:

  • Tighten skin to eliminate the sagging effect.
  • Reduce the size of the areola to keep them in proportion to the newly shaped breasts.
  • Move the nipple higher up on the breast so it is approximately even with the lower crease of the breast.

A breast lift can be performed at any age, however it is recommend that women wait until breast development has stopped, a stable weight is achieved, and no future pregnancies are planned. Pregnancy and breast-feeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. A breast lift can be performed on breasts of any size. Women with smaller sagging breasts will likely have longer lasting results. Larger breasts are heavier, which makes them more likely to sag again. The following conditions could indicate that breast lift surgery is right for you:

  • Have breasts that lack substance or firmness.
  • Have breasts that are loose and sagging (breasts are flatter and longer).
  • Have one breast that falls lower than the other.
  • Have nipples and areolas that point downward (fall below your breast creases).
  • Have areolas stretched out of proportion to your breasts.

Breastfeeding is a consideration, as well. Since the milk ducts and nipples are left intact, breast lift surgery will not typically affect your ability to breastfeed, however some women might have difficulties producing enough milk. If you have concerns about breastfeeding after a breast lift surgery, you should discuss this with your surgeon.

Breast Reduction

There are several common techniques that may be utilized during a breast reduction procedure. The size and shape of your breasts, size of your areolas, and the desired reduction amount of the patient are factors that will help your surgeon determine the best technique for you. Incisions may be made in one of three ways:

  • Around the areola.
  • Vertically downward from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease underneath the breast.
  • Horizontal beneath the breast and follow the natural curve of the breast crease.

After the surgeon has removed excess breast tissue, fat and skin, the nipple and areola are shifted to a higher position. The areola, which in large breasts usually has been stretched, also is reduced in size. Skin that was formerly located above the nipple is brought down and together to reshape the breast. Your surgeon will discuss beforehand with you which method to utilize for your desired outcome and individual circumstance.

Gynaecomastia

The normal male breast is made up of breast tissue as well as fat. ‘Gynaecomastia’, often referred to as ‘man boobs’, occurs when breast tissue forms as a mass under the areola. This can affect one or both breasts. Gynaecomastia is common and affects a significant proportion of men from adolescence through to middle age. The majority of cases have no known cause (idiopathic), but a minority can result from drug use (commonly marijuana or steroid use) or disorders such as testicular dysfunction, chronic kidney disease, androgen deficiency or thyroid problems. A sagging chest can also result from significant weight loss or the normal ageing process. This can cause skin to lose tone and droop (pseudo-gynaecomastia). These conditions can be improved with cosmetic surgery.

Otoplasty

Ear correction surgery or ‘otoplasty’ is a cosmetic procedure to correct prominent ears by setting them back closer to the head. Ear surgery to correct protruding ears is usually performed after the age of 5 or 6. Ear surgery can also be performed on adults. There are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery in adults. Otoplasty is performed in an accredited hospital, either as a day case or with a short hospital stay. This will depend on the patient’s general health, the extent of the procedure, and your surgeon’s advice. The procedure may be carried out under local or general anaesthesia. Usually, children are given a general anaesthetic. The surgery takes about 1 hour and recovery is typically rapid.

Face Lift

A face lift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure used to improve the signs of aging in the facial skin. A face lift can tighten sagging facial skin, remove deep wrinkles, lines and creases, eliminate fatty deposits along the jawline (jowls), and also firm the neck area. Facial skin will appear younger, firmer and smoother. A face lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure to lessen signs of ageing in the face and neck. The face is often the first place to reveal the effects of time, sun damage and everyday life. The elasticity of our skin naturally changes as we get older, affecting the youthfulness of our appearance.

Brow Lift

A brow lift is a cosmetic surgery procedure to improve the appearance of the eyebrows by reducing common signs of ageing, such as crow’s feet and deep wrinkles in the forehead. The eyebrow position can greatly influence your overall facial appearance and aesthetics of the eyes. As a person ages they begin to lose elasticity in their skin, and the muscle and fat begins to lose its tone. This results in an appearance of being old, tired, sad or angry. Brow lift surgery aims to create a natural-looking improvement around the eyebrows by elevating them to a more attractive and youthful position.

  • Elevating the brow to a preferred position
  • Smoothing out forehead wrinkles
  • Lessening frown lines that develop between the eyes near the nose
  • Reducing crow’s feet
  • Reducing sagging of the upper eyelids
  • Brightening appearance of the eyes

Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, changes the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Blepharoplasty includes repairing droopy eyelids by removing excess skin, muscle and fat. As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, drooping upper lids and bags under your eyes.  Sagging skin around your eyes can impair your peripheral or side vision and blepharoplasty can reduce this impaired vision. To help decide if blepharoplasty is right for you, find out what results you can realistically expect and take time to explore the benefits and risks of the procedure. Blepharoplasty will help address bags and wrinkles around the eyes, but will not improve wrinkles of the cheeks, temples or forehead. It also does not correct problems caused by drooping eyebrows.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure in which a surgeon targets specific areas of unwanted fat between the skin and muscle for removal. Liposuction is primarily used to eliminate stubborn areas of fat that have been resistant to diet and exercise, and areas of fat that have accumulated simply due to the aging process, targeting areas such as the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen, as well as the knees, ankles, arms, neck and under the chin. Liposuction surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with a surgical procedure to contour the overlying skin. Most liposuction procedures involve making a small puncture in the skin and then utilizing various modalities to loosen the fat prior to suctioning the fat through a small metal tube (cannula) and a suction device. While liposuction can change body shape, it is not a substitute for weight reduction nor a cure for obesity.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery is a procedure that reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and better-proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body. A thigh lift is designed to tighten the skin and improve the contour of the inner thigh. An incision is made either at the fold where the thigh and the groin join, or down the inner aspect of the thigh toward the knee.

Brachioplasty/Arm Reduction

Brachioplasty, also known as an ‘arm lift’, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that reshapes the underside of the upper arm. Arm lift surgery is usually performed from the armpit to the elbow, on the underside of the upper arm. This is an area where skin droops with age or following diet or weight loss. While exercise may help tone underlying muscle, it cannot remove any extra skin that has lost its elasticity. Results are immediate and should be long lasting if a healthy lifestyle is maintained.

Body Contouring

Body contouring is a cosmetic procedure using one or a combination of techniques to achieve a change in body contours and appearance. If your body shape is affected by obesity or skin laxity in one or more areas following pregnancy or weight loss, then body contouring may be suitable for you. Body contouring is a combination approach using cosmetic surgery techniques. It can assist in changing body shape, although is not a substitute for weight reduction nor a cure for obesity. It is more suitable for people who are in relatively good shape but suffer from loose abdominal skin or disproportionate areas of the body that do not respond well to diet or exercise.
